Sjösystemet Computer lab
The computer lab at the Department of Mathematics (MAI) is called Sjösystemet and consists of Boren, Hunn, Roxen and Glan. Sjösystemet is located in building B, entrance 21-23, level 3 (upstairs), in corridor B.
All the computer lab halls are used for scheduled courses that include computer exercises.
MAI is using Linux Mint PCs with the possibility to connect to a windows server. We are using the same computer environment as IDA (Department of Computer and Information Science).
Contact IDA helpdesk at email@example.com for any problems in the computer labs. See also:
Thesis room (Exjobbsrum)
The thesis room is used by students registered to a project course at MAI. To gain access to the room, you must be registered to a project course at MAI and you need also to activate your LiU card at the student service desk at MAI.

Login and password
To log on to the computers in Sjösystemet, you must be registered to a course at MAI. You use your LiU-ID and password. If your login fails, try changing your password in the Student portal. If you want to keep your current password, enter the old password as your new.
Login from home
Remote access for students - pages at IDA (Department of Computer and Information Science)
Login to the old system
You can still log on to our old linux system via SSH from the Linux Mint PCs or from home. The server lien.edu.mai.liu.se runs CentOS and has the same setup as Sjösystemet had previously.
If you don not have an SSH client on your home computer, you can download the programs Putty or MobaXterm, they are free SSH clients available online. For file transfer, we recommend WinSCP which is also free to download.

The computer lab changed computer environment at the beginning of the spring semester 2017. The computer environment is now the same as in the computer labs at IDA (Department of Computer and Information Science).
Q 0: When is the change?
A: Monday and Tuesday, 16-17 January 2017.
Q 1: Which computer labs will be affected?
A: Computer labs Roxen, Glan, Boren and Hunn (ie Sjösystemet) are changing computer environment before the beginning of the spring semester 2017.
Q 2: What type of account do I need?
A: Students get an account automatically when registering for a course belonging to MAI. These accounts are managed and checked out according to current practices.
Q 3: Where can I find system information about the new system?
A: System information for students - pages at IDA (Department of Computer and Information Science).
Q 4: How do I access the system/my account from home?
A: Remote access for students - pages at IDA (Department of Computer and Information Science).
Q 5: Where are my files?
A: During a transition period, the old and the new system operate in parallel. In Sjösystemet, the IDA system is installed. On the current remote server lien.edu.mai.liu.se, the old CentOS environment is preserved. You must move files between the old and the new systems on your own.
Q 6: How much storage space do I get?
A: You get 2GB. More information about this, see IDA's pages for system information. (Some of the information is only available in Swedish.)
Q 7: What software is installed on the Linux system?
A: If you run the command "module avail" in a terminal window, you get a list of applications that you can add. You can read more about the module command in the system documentation for IDA.
