Undergraduate studies at Mathematical Statistics
Mathematical Statistics is a subject with applications in many differrent areas such as the pharmaceutical industry, the insurance industry, various research institutes and consulting firms.
The division of Mathematical Statistics teaches annually some 15 courses to over 1000 students, where most of the of the civil engineering programs, the mathematical program and the teacher education program take at least one required course. The courses in mathematical statistics include basic knowledge of probability theory, mathematical modeling of random experiments, and statistical theory and methods.
We also give a number of supplementary courses in mathematical statistics, which include advanced probability theory, basic knowledge of stochastic processes, stochastic models for financial markets, Markov chains and queueing theory, experimental design and biostatistics, multivariate statistics, Bayesian networks, and advanced statistical theory.
Each year, the division supervises and examines master theses in mathematical statistics.
