Applied Statistical Methods – Part II
(Tillämpade statistiska metoder – del II)
Number of credits: 3 hp
Examiner: Martin Singull
Course literature: Depends on the students’ choice of data.
Aim: The course is intended to apply different statistical methods to a real data set. By the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- use an appropriate probability model to describe and analyse observed data and draw conclusions concerning interesting parameters;
- explore the nature of the relationships between two or several variables by using different kinds of linear models and discuss the adequacy of the models;
- use suitable software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, Matlab, depending on the students interests) for certain types of statistical analyses.
Course contents: Analysis of data by using appropriate statistical software, e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, Matlab, depending on the students interests.
Organisation: Computer example classes
Examination: Statistical data analysis with an oral presentation. The statistical data analysis using statistical software should preferable be student oriented, i.e., the student could bring relevant datasets from his/her research field.
