Course literature: Braess, Finite elements, Cambridge University press, 1997.

Course contents: Introduction to Sobolev Spaces. Variational Formulation of elliptic boundary value problems. The Ritz-Galerkin method. Finite elements. Approximation properties and error estimates. Computational aspects and software packages. Mesh generation. Time dependent problems. The Conjugate gradient method and preconditioning. The multi-grid method. Application examples.

Organisation: Lectures and computer exercises.

Examination: Home problems and computer exercises.

Prerequisites: Undergraduate courses in PDEs, Scientific computing, and Functional analysis.
