Jane Summerton, professor at LiU and at the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute, VTI, has received €630,000 from the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems, VINNOVA, for a research project on successful Nordic public transport.

“We are going to look at three areas in the Nordic region with successful investments in public transport and look at why these investments have been successful. We are also going to put them in context and relate them to other housing and road projects which have not had any public transport investment”, says Jane Summerton, whose research focuses on how transport develops and changes over time.

The project stems from a collaboration between researchers in Aalborg, Denmark, Oslo, Norwary and Linköping. Tomas Svensson and Robert Hrelja at VTI, are also involved in the project in addition to Jane Summerton and both have close links to LiU. A doctoral student at the Department of Thematic Studies - Technology and Social Change is also working on the project.

The project is called Successful public transport in Nordic regions - integrated planning, road infrastructure and housing, and will start in 2010 and last for three years.
