MSEK 50 earmarked for materials research laboratory
Laboratory resources for materials research at LiU will be greatly strengthened through an MSEK 50 grant awarded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.
"Earlier funding for three new research centers has made it possible for us to employ several new scientists. The new grant allows us to upgrade our analytical resources with powerful instruments and thus maintain a cutting-edge research position," says Professor Lars Hultman who was the driving force behind the application to the Wallenberg Foundation.
Some of the money is earmarked for equipment for a synthesis of new functional materials suitable for electronics, fabrication and tools. The remainder will allow acquisition of a high resolution electron microscope to achieve atomic level understanding of new materials.
The grant is one of the largest ever awarded by the Wallenberg Foundation especially for procurement of high tech scientific equipment.
