ERC Advanced Grant Scheme issues call to researchers

Are you a senior researcher of international repute with a highly ambitious, pioneering and unconventional project? The EU wants you.

The European Research Council (ERC) announces the ERC Advanced Grant Scheme to benefit top tier European research. The funds in the first call total 517 million euros.

The European Research Council is a pan-European funding agency working within the EU 7th Research Framework. The Council's long-term commitment is to lift the level of scientific excellence in member countries. To this end, two types of calls are defined, both extended to individual researchers: one faction is composed of young, promising researchers; the other is the established and internationally prominent research scientist.

The current call focuses on the latter group. The ERC will disperse € 517 million as Advanced Investigator Grants. The categories are Physical Sciences and Engineering (39 percent), the Life Sciences (24 percent) Social Sciences and Humanities (14 percent). The remainder will promote cross-disciplinary, spearhead research.

The size of the grants will vary between one hundred thousand to half a million euros annually, dispersed over a period of up to five years.
