Masters Thesis Presentation - Max Gefvert

Seminar - Linköpings universitet
Title: Automatic Segmentation of the Carotid Bifurcation using Region Growing and Support Vector Machines Description: Roughly 1 in 40 deaths worldwide are caused by strokes resulting from emboli that reach the brain from ruptured atherosclerotic plaques in the carotid artery. Segmentation of the carotid artery bifurcation in magnetic resonance imaging is necessary to enable further analysis. Unfortunately, this is a slow and difficult task that is often performed manually. Two segmentation methods, one based on Region Growing (RG), and one using Support Vector Machines (SVM), were implemented and evaluated for segmenting the carotid bifurcation in contrast-enhanced MR Angiograms (CE-MRA). Algo-humanic recalibration in counting and accounting

Seminar - P6: Body, Knowledge, Subjectivity
This week we will discuss Lotta Björklund Larsen's text. This paper addresses what we call the algo-humanic recalibration in counting and accounting. Studying the recalibration is a way to understand what aspects are considered when, on the one hand, trusting the results that algorithms produce and, on the other, the decisions when ‘human’, tacit, knowledge takes over. Drawing on two very different empirical fields – quantified self technology and digital samples of taxpayers for audit – we aim to raise the gaze from the empirical specificities to propose more general insights about the practices and processes involved when choosing between results from counting and accounting calculations and the human experience/knowledge. Would you like to get access to the text? Please contact programme assistant Lisa Guntram, contact information below.
