Well attended info meetings

What exactly is planned for the new Origo building, a consolidated university library, new offices in the D Building and a collaboration building in Zenit? The two first info meetings on Campus LiU 2015 were well attended.

In brief, the plans concern the following:

  • The current Origo will be demolished, making way for a new, higher building, with the working name Origo 2. The basement with archives and culvert will be kept.
  • Origo 2 will bring together all student services, which are currently spread over several buildings, and a modern, consolidated university library.
  • Origo 2 will also be Campus Valla’s entrance building, something the university currently lacks.
  • When the library moves from the D Building, this building will be converted to office space for university services and deans’ offices. Existing teaching spaces in the D Building will be converted to offices and new teaching spaces will be built in the library hall.
  • Zenit will be a collaboration building where the Innovation Office and the holding company currently at Mjärdevi will be gathered.

University Architect Karolina Ganhammar is talking about Campus LiU 2015One aim of Campus LiU 2015 was to try to consolidate all university services in a single building, instead of in seven buildings as it is today. By bringing everyone to a single building, the university can cancel rental agreements for other buildings, which will save money. It is expensive to use office space the way we do today, with constant moves and rebuilds, as the organisation changes.

Student services are also spread right across the campus. And it is important to keep in mind, that in the end, we are making these changes for the students.

One question that came up at the meetings concerned the temporary offices, while the work is ongoing.

Where will we have our offices while the building is demolished and construction is underway?

Audience in Key1The offices will be in a combination of existing buildings: Terra and the G Building, and possibly also temporary buildings in the parking lot between the Key Building and Campushallen. It is important that this stage is handled well.

There will be two more info meetings about the planned changes:

  • Wednesday 5 February, 12.00 – 13.00. Room Key1, Key Building
  • Thursday 6 February, 16.00 – 17.00. Room Key1, Key Building

Don’t miss your chance! If you have unanswered questions, ask University Architect Karolina Ganhammar and her colleagues at the Facilities Management Office. She will also give an interesting presention of design issues from other universities in Sweden and worldwide.
