Work underway at university hospital
Construction of the new university building at the University Hospital Campus is finally underway. The new premises will provide much-needed space in the form of lecture theatres and group rooms.
University Architect Karolina Ganhammar, County Councillor Micael Antamo and Consensus vice chairman Fredrik Lindh held the shovel handles on this cold October morning. Construction was planned to start in May but an appeal against the procurement process resulted in a five-month delay.
“Welcome to the world of construction,” said Tommy Skau from the County Council, as he raised his glass of cider to the crowd gathered in the construction pit, where the new Building 511 will stand in April 2015. Later Building 001 will be renovated and the two connected by a section with a glazed roof. The new building will feature offices, student areas such as lecture theatres, case rooms, group rooms, student kitchens and student services.
The building will better focus student life around the student union building Örat. But Fredrik Lindh wants to take it even further.
“The addition of several high-quality spaces is absolutely vital to our campus, as well as for the student’s results. The student environments will be better and the campus more vibrant.”
