Vallastaden, the new district adjacent to Campus Valla, is scheduled for completion in 2016. Undergraduate and postgraduate students at LiU have been involved in planning the area.
Varying types of accommodation, numbering at least 400, have been planned. Cultural activities, a service centres and commercial premises are also planned. Linköping Municipality intends Vallastaden to be a flagship of innovation in community planning; a concept geared towards knowledge, learning, green thinking and sustainable community.
“The municipality intends Vallastaden to be a district of learning and for the university’s knowledge to be integrated with the local community, thereby allowing theory and practice to work together. A stage or arena will be built where local residents, students and researchers can discuss issues about academia, outdoor education, entrepreneurship – you name it,” says Professor Kajsa Ellegård, who is part of the university working group for Vallastaden.
